Wow! If I could sum up the film in one word to display how great it is, it'd be "cinematography" I don't want to describe to you the specific shots that I'm talking about, because all I'd be doing is suppressing your FILMGASM when you actually see them. There's a vast array of beautiful transitions and establishing shots, along with unique camera movements splattered everywhere.
Each character is interestingly twisted and broken in their own unique ways.
In many films that take a weird and non cohesive route with their story tend to fall ill of losing itself towards the end like Midsommar does. There's seems to be no over arching narrative that pieces it all together. It's lacking a true narrative like Hereditary.
The average movie goer will most likely not enjoy or appreciate certain aspects this film or will enjoy it simply because it's weird.

The film was released in the United States on July 3, 2019 by A24. Plot Edit Spoiler warning: The following contains plot details about the entire movie. During winter, anxiety-afflicted college student Dani Ardor is traumatized after her sister, who has bipolar disorder, kills their parents before committing suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning. The tragedy triggers intense panic attacks in Dani, and her already precarious relationship with her boyfriend, Christian Hughes —an anthropology graduate student—is adversely affected. The following summer, Christian attends a party with Dani, where she learns that he had been invited by his Swedish friend Pelle to attend a midsummer celebration at Pelle's ancestral commune, the Hårga, in northern Sweden along with their friends and fellow graduate students Mark and Josh. Pelle explains that the days-long celebration only occurs once every ninety years. Christian awkwardly invites Dani to come after she learns of the trip, which he had concealed from her. The group arrive at the commune and take a psilocybin concoction together at the request of the villagers, resulting in Dani having a bad trip with unstable hallucinations of her dead sister. Later, they befriend Simon and Connie, an English couple invited to attend by Pelle's brother Ingemar. Tensions begin to rise after Pelle brings the six of them to witness an ättestupa ritual in which two of the commune elders commit senicide by leaping from a cliff top. When the male elder fails to die as a result of the fall, several members crush his skull with a mallet. Though Siv, a female elder, insists the ritual is perfectly normal according to Hårga's cultural beliefs regarding death, the four students find the ritual disturbing, especially Dani, who wishes to leave immediately. However, they decide to stay, both at the behest of Pelle (who reveals to Dani he has also lost his parents) and because of Josh's thesis work on European midsummer celebrations. Simon and Connie disappear soon after, but the group are assured they were taken to the train station. Christian decides to copy Josh's thesis on Hårga, causing a rift between the two. Josh attempts to glean more information from an elder on the commune's ancient runic practices, which are based on paintings made by Ruben, a deformed member birthed of incest; he explains that the Hårga intentionally produce a single member via incest to inspire the perpetual writing of their scripture, and consider this member an oracle. After Mark unwittingly urinates on the community's ancestral tree, he is lured away by a female member. That night, Josh sneaks into a temple to photograph the Hårga's sacred runic text, but he is discovered by a man wearing Mark's skinned face and hit over the head from behind by one of the cult members. The next day, Dani and Christian engage in various celebratory activities alongside Pelle. Dani participates in a maypole dancing competition, and upon winning, is crowned the "May Queen", an esteemed title in the cult. At the same time, Christian is drugged and groomed to participate in a ritual in which he impregnates cult member Maja while female elders watch. After discovering Christian having sex with Maja, a horrified Dani has a panic attack, and several of the Hårga women start wailing with her. Shortly after the ritual, a disoriented Christian discovers Josh's leg partially buried, as well as Simon's body, ritually dismembered as a blood eagle. He is then captured by cultists and paralyzed with the aid of an unknown drug. Along with an incapacitated Christian, the cult gathers around Dani and explains that, for the conclusion of their celebration, nine human sacrifices must be offered: four outsiders (Josh, Mark, Simon, and Connie), four cult members (the elders from the ättestupa and two living volunteers), and a final living victim. As the May Queen, Dani has to choose the final victim: either an outsider (Christian) or a lottery-selected villager. Christian is selected as the sacrifice and stuffed into a disemboweled bear and placed in a designated temple, alongside the still-living Ingemar, a second villager, and the ritually-prepared corpses of Josh, Mark, Simon, Connie, and the two dead elders. The temple is then burned in an effort to purge the cult's evil. As the cultists rhapsodically celebrate the completion of their ceremony, Dani sobs in horror, but gradually begins to smile. When Dani (Florence Pugh) gets an email from her troubled sister, it heralds the start of a very bad time in her life. Deciding to join her boyfriend (Jack Reynor) on a trip to Sweden, she hopes to draw closer to him, but in fact will become entangled with a cult that has designs on them both. To anyone who might be worried that, following the neck-slicing, demon-summoning terrors of Hereditary, Ari Aster has gone Hollywood: fear not. Or rather: fear. Because instead he’s gone Hälsingland. For his second feature film, the writer-director has conjured up an even madder and more ambitious nightmare, set in the remote wilds of northern Sweden and featuring ingredients not usually found in scary movies. The skies are blue. The sun is out. And everywhere are angelic-looking characters, adorned with flowers and dancing merrily. It’s the polar opposite of that bleak, cramped house in Hereditary, yet Aster makes the experience every bit as unsettling, orchestrating the descent from paradise to, well, something else with clinical precision. It’s a virtuoso, bone-shaking, head-spinning experience. The vibe is hard to shake off. And you might not be ordering from Interflora again for a while. The set-up is vaguely Hostel -y: after an intense prologue in which an awful tragedy befalls the family of Dani (Pugh), she, her boyfriend Christian (Reynor) and his grad-school buddies decide to head to Sweden for a backpacking break. Dani and Christian appear to be on the rocks: she’s afraid she’s leaning too much on him, while his friends urge him to ditch her and play the field. It’s relationship drama played out with operatic intensity, and with bold Asterian licks, like an unflinchingly long shot of Dani on the phone, making clear her mental state, or a slow zoom through a dark window that feels like a plunge into an abyss. Makes the famous ending of The Wicker Man look like a documentary on the Fyre Festival. Then we get to Sweden. The film is in no rush to introduce us to the ways of the Harga, the peculiar, ever-smiling tribe who have taken over an idyllic meadow surrounded by forest. There’s a pause for a magic-mushrooms trip, and for Christian’s sleazy pal Mark (Will Poulter) to leer at Nordic women. When they do arrive at the village, we are immediately immersed in ancient rituals that aren’t explained, activities that may or may not be ominous playing out in the background of frames. Aster and his set decorator Henrik Svensson have likewise packed the village’s structures with dense detail that is left enigmatic, though there are clues that something is definitely off. What’s in that big, yellow triangle-shaped building? And exactly why are there so many penises etched on walls? The shit that goes down — and there is a lot of shit that goes down — is sure to inspire a million memes. After a slow simmer, with the village’s off-ness being ramped up degree by degree, it finally reaches a boil in a climax that makes the famous ending of The Wicker Man look like a documentary on the Fyre Festival. Despite the film’s focus seemingly having turned away from Dani and Christian to the many exotic distractions on display, it turns out it was still a relationship drama after all, and both Pugh and Reynor are extraordinary in a final reel that pushes their characters in some truly extreme directions. Midsommar tests not only its players but its viewers: it’s a ride, however, that any lover of cinema should take. A visceral, unique, utterly fucked-up experience that demands to be seen on the big screen, Midsommar is the horror movie to beat in 2019. Caution: contains distressing amounts of folk music.

That's literally the only thing able to explain what I've just witnessed. What producer or executive gave it a green light? These people need to be fired. This is NOT a horror movie. It's not a drama. It's not a character study. It's just a bunch of ideas from someone who had smoked or sniffed something after the expiring date. There is no plot, no story, no character journey, no conflict, nothing. Thigs just happen. And then it ends.
At the beginning you get a vibe of a crazy overly attached girlfriend but you still give her the benefit of the doubt, considering she just went through a horrific situation. So you expect something to come out of that horrible trauma. And it doesn't happen. The matter is just forgotten. You get over 2 hours of people dancing around, getting high, making weird noises, and some terribly poor atempts of being serious. And all you can do is laugh when the movie is trying to be in its most serious moments.
I only gave it one star beacause we can't give zeros here. But still I think I would give this a 1/10 just for the male nude scenes. Yep, we get full male frontal nudity here. That's the only good thing I can point out of this bunch of trash.
